As I write the pandemic is exploding. Schools are shutting. Many businesses are at risk. Things we took for granted...
In line with guidance from the Government and the Church of England, we are not holding Sunday services or mid-week meetings at St John’s at the moment.
However, recognising the importance of meeting together, we intend to do our best to meet together via videoconferencing. We want to make continued participation – even in this less personal way – a priority, just as we would if we were meeting live. We need one another, and the nourishing food of the Word of God.
How we are meeting
We are encouraging our homegroups to continue to meet, at what is a stressful time for many via video conferencing technology (e.g. a free Zoom account (limited to 40 mins), Skype or Facetime), with the usual format of Bible study and prayer. Your group leader will be in contact with you.
Most of our Short Courses will continue on-line. If you have signed up for one of those the course leader will be in contact with you about the details.
Our wider community
We have distributed postcards to every home in our parish, offering help to those who are self isolating or are affected in any other way. If you are able to join the team of volunteers please get in touch.
Christianity Explored course
In these strange times many people are thinking about the big questions in life, wondering what it’s all about. Christianity Explored is an informal 7-week course, for anyone who wants to think about the meaning of life, and the relevance of Jesus.
You will be able to ask any question you like, or you can just sit and listen!
Join us 8pm Wednesday 17th June via Zoom:
Most of us would like to believe that there is more to life than just what we can see or touch.
The idea of living in a pointless universe without a personal God giving us purpose and protection is a frightening prospect to many. Whereas the possibility of belonging to and being loved by a caring God is absolutely thrilling. But how can we know the truth?
In Essentials, Lee McMunn (a former member of St John’s) argues that to know the truth we need God to engage us in conversation. Lee looks at what Jesus says about God in the Bible and explores what it means to have a relationship with Him.
Pick up a free copy of this from the porch of the church building (open 24/7).
Word for the Day
During these uncertain times, Simon is posting a short and encouraging Word for the Day video on the St John’s Lindow Facebook page every weekday at 10am. To keep up to date with these videos, you can Like or Follow us on Facebook.
